The Food: Perfect Thai dishes
You won't find a better pad thai west of Bangkok and the Thai curries are spot on. If fact, everything we've tried so far (and we're working our way through the whole menu) is excellent by any standards.
It's because chef and co-owner Pon Yuang is Thai and has run restaurants in both Thailand and Paris. Now she's cooking with fresh, authentic ingredients in Gran Canaria and the results are spectacular.
There are plenty of vegetarian options although as always in Gran Canaria, you have to say exactly what you eat and what you don't.
The House Fusion is in El Motor Grande; the inland village just behind Puerto Rico resort. You can't miss the restaurant because it's right on the Plaza next to the church.
Gran Canaria residents and regulars will feel a warm glow as they arrive because The House Fusion is exactly where old-school favourite Casa Zamora used to be. The building is still the same, but now it smells of Thai spices rather than mojo and meat.
On the plaza or indoors?
This is a tough choice. The outdoor tables are on the sleepy square under the trees while the interior of the restaurants is really pretty. We say the best thing is to visit for lunch and sit outside (and try some of the Danish food), then visit again in the evening and sit indoors to experience the warm glow of the iconic interior.
Big groups can book a private room or a big table on the plaza (give as much notice as you can).
Free taxi to the green curry
If you're staying anywhere in Puerto Rico resort, Arguineguin, Patalavaca, Tauro or Playa del Cura, you can get to The House Fusion for free. Just hop in a taxi and tell them to head to the plaza in El Motor Grande. Once you arrive, tell Carsten or any of the staff, and they will pay for your taxi or knock the cost of the ride off your bill.
From Puerto de Mogán, just jump on any bus heading east to Puerto Rico (the ones that use the motorway are faster) and get off at the main Puerto Rico bus station. From there, just jump in a taxi.
From Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés (the pad thai is worth the journey), get any bus heading to Puerto Rico.
From Las Palmas, get any bus that goes to Puerto Rico (Line 91 is fast, Line one is catastrophically slow).
If you've got a car, it's pretty easy to park in El Motor Grande as it' a sleepy sort of place.
