A quick insider's summary of the main news stories affecting Gran Canaria this month.

Gran Canaria hotels lost 4.6 million euros in 2016 due to a 700% surge in bogus food poisoning claims from British tourists.

Gran Canaria, and in particular the capital Las Palmas, is fast becoming a top spot to come and learn Spanish. If you are looking for a place to do a Spanish course, or live here and want to get your Spanish up to scratch, the World Language Centre should be top of your shortlist.

If you've spent any time in south Gran Canaria's shopping centres, you'll know that they aren't really about the shopping.

The last few weeks have been pretty busy news-wise in Gran Canaria with the stories about ferry that hit the wall and the rally car that hit the barriers going around the world.

Gran Canaria now has 15 Blue Flag beaches after three new ones gained the prestigious status for the first time in 2017.

A well hidden beach that you have to know to be able to find it. Easiest way to get there is to drive to the harbour of La Aldea. Park somewhere and look for a sign that shows you the way to the beach. if you look well at the map underneath in satellite view you can view the paths.
