The development of Tauro beach by local firm Santana Cazorla took a step forward this week after Spain's Costas department gave it permission to create a 180 metres artificial beach.

Santana Cazorla, part owners of nearby timeshare resort Anfi del Mar, plan to build a series of hotels at Tauro along with beachfront parks, restaurants and facilities. Geting permission to create the beach from Costas is a big step forward for the company.

The new sandy beach will be 100 metres longer than the current stone beach pictured above and 30 metres wider; Plenty of room for the sunbed concessions.

Sand for the new artificial beach is expected to be imported from the Bahamas rather than dredged from Gran Canaria's offshore deposits. This gets around the environmental protests that prevented Amadores beach from getting as much sand as the experts recommended (now you know why the rocks poker through the sand at the west end of Amadores beach).
