After a couple of weeks of sunny weather, and one day of rain so far in September, Gran Canaria could go all tropical this week to welcome the Autumn season.

Starting on Monday, September 20, we'll see dusty calima air over the eastern islands and this could well spread to Gran Canaria during the week. By Tuesday, the risk of rain showers and even rainstorms with electrical activity increases. These are most likely in Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Gomera.

The cause is a mass of high-altitude air moving north towards the Canary Islands. This warm, humid air is expected to collide with a mass of cold air moving south and to create instability in the atmosphere.

The tropical air will cause higher temperatures and humidity, and the collision with colder air could even trigger some rainstorms with thunder and lightning.

We say 'could' because these tropical incidents are unpredictable. Gran Canaria may just get a few days of hot sticky weather and the od shower, but it could also experience some proper weather. We'll know more as the situation develops, and will keep you posted.

Alex Says: It's not exactly meteorology, but Teide had a cap of cloud this evening. Traditionally, that's always been seen as a sign of rain over the next few days.

Gran Canaria Tip: What Are The Best Car Hire Companies?

This is one of the most common questions we get in our Facebook Group (with over 30,000 members) and fortunately, it is an easy one to answer. The Gran Canaria Info admin team and the fans in our Facebook group agree...

The best car hire companies in Gran Canaria are local ones with desk at the airport and honest pricing policies that don't have any hidden insurance or fuel deposit costs. They just rent you a good car at a good price with no fuss at all.

We recommend Mr Car Hire Gran Canaria (Nick); an idependent car rental professional who works with all the main local rental companies in Gran Canaria. This means that he can always find you a good deal.

Mr Car Hire also offers fully comprehensive insurance on all car rental, three-day bookings, and delively of your car right to your door anywhere in Gran Canaria.

We advise all Gran Canaria visitors to avoid booking the cheapest possible car on generic car rental websites or via their flight company because you often end up paying large deposits, extra fuel and insurance costs and all kinds of other costs once you arrive to pick up your car at the airport.
