Gran Canaria Beaches: Easy Access At West Coast El Risco

El Risco Beach in northwest Gran Canaria El Risco Beach in northwest Gran Canaria

El Risco beach is 400 metres long and is a mixture of pebbles and large stones although you do get some black sand at low tide during the summer and autumn.

It's a great, if often windy, beach for nature lovers and the trees by the shore give El Risco a bit of a European camping beach feel. Deserted during the week, it attracts locals at the weekends and is a popular if unofficial campsite.

While nudism at El Risco is fine, most local nudists head to Guayedra beach just to the north.

Access is via a 1km track that starts at the roadside in El Risco village; The only inhabited place between Agaete and La Aldea de San Nicolas in the far west. The track, in good condition and fine for cars, ends about 400 metres from the beach.

El Risco beach is safe for swimming provided that the waves aren't too big but please be careful swimming too far from shore as there are strong currents. Getting into the water is a pain because of the stones, but the bottom is sandy once you are in.
