A vast blob of hot, dusty air from North Africa is heading towards the Canary Islands and arrives on Thursday. Temperatures will rise by as much as 9ºC and will peak at over 40ºC over the weekend.
Gran Canaria is on alert for temperatures over 34ºC until Sunday, and on fire alert.
Despite regular press reports in the UK and in Europe about a tourist tax, Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands don't impose any levy on visitors.
