Things to do in Puerto Rico

Besides the beach, and the other beach at Amadores, there's plenty to do in Puerto Rico. It's the island's busiest resort and you can do anything from absolutely nothing to driving a Ferrari.

We always say this, but one of the best things you can do in Puerto Rico is rent a car or book a tour and go and see the rest of the island. You always know that there's plenty of sunshine and sunbathing time the next day: Puerto Rico is as sunny as it gets.

Within Puerto Rico resort, there's the new Angry Birds activity park to keep the kids happy for a day. It's much bigger than it looks and great for kids of all ages. The Ferraris are parked on the roundabout between the shopping centre and the walk-through McDonalds.

The two marinas in Puerto Rico are Gran Canaria's boating hotspots. Book a dolphin tour, a day on a pirate ship or a catamaran, or even splash out and rent your own speedboat and captain for the day. The marina is also the best place to book Scuba dives, parasails and jet skis.

If you ever get bored of sitting on the beach, then the walkway to Amadores beach (starting by the restaurants in Puerto de Escala marina) is a safe and pretty cliff-edge walk that goes all the way to Amadores beach and its bars and restaurants. Carry one walking and you get all the way to Tauro beach and Playa del Cura.

Restaurants and nightlife are concentrated in the giant Puerto Rico shopping centre. This has everything from Canarian restaurants and meat grills to quality Indians and Norwegian bakeries. The music plays until late and nobody under the age of 35 ever goes home bored. If you feel like something quieter, there's the Europa Centre just up the hill and plenty of places down by the beachfront and in Puerto de Escala.

Puerto Rico farmer's market is every other Sunday morning and pops up in the gardens just below the shopping centre.
