Ultraviolet light levels are expected to be at 'Very High' levels this week due to clear skies.

AEMET

Clear skies expected in the Canary Islands and Gran Canaria this week have triggered a Red or 'Very High' ultraviolet light level warning from the Spanish weather service (AEMET).

UV levels will be very high (between 8 and 9 on a 1-11 scale) due to low ozone level over the islands and clear skies mean that the UV ligh will reach the ground.

AEMET advises remaining indoors during midday hours, when UV levels are at their highest, staying in the shade, and wearing sunscreen at al times if outdoors. It advises wearing a minimum of SPF 15 sunscreen and reapplying it frequently.

Remember that UV levels rise with altitude so be extra careful if you head up into the mountains this week.
