The city isn't the bread desert that it used to be: Spanish bakery chains have moved in and even the supermarkets now sell whole grain and rye bread.
However, the German bakery still has the edge over all the newbies: Master baker Kerstin Wunder's soft, seedy rolls are the best in town and her baked cheesecake and pastries are gorgeous. Kerstin also does fresh spelt bread.
At Christmas, this is the best place to go for quality stollen and other German festive treats.
The German bakery is on Calle Ferreras next door to the NH Hotel and opposite the Cafe Suecia. You can see it from the beachfront.
Pop in early for bread (it sells out fast) or any time for cake and (German filter) coffee.
