Weekend Rain In Gran Canaria: Maybe!

The weather system heading towards the Canary Islands looks like it will drop plenty of rain on the western islands but there is a good chance that it will stall before reaching Gran Canaria.

26.04.2017: Gran Canaria will get showers and maybe the odd bit of thunder and lightning over the weekend, but there will be plenty of sunshine in between the clouds.

17.04.2017: Gran Canaria had a hot and sunny Easter with temperatures peaking at over 30ºC on Sunday and today. It looks like summer is well on the way.

07.04.2017: This weekend and the beginning of next week will be calm and sunny in Gran Canaria but there is an outside chance of a spot of real weather towards the middle of Easter week.

27.03.2017: The cool air that made the weekend a tad chilly has gone and a lovely high pressure sitting close to the Canary Islands will warm things up.

20.03.2017: Wow, that was fun! After a stormy weekend in Gran Canaria with heavy rain showers all over Gran Canaria things are getting back to normal so expect sunshine in south Gran Canaria this week.

13.03.2017: The hot air that gave Gran Canaria record high temperatures over the weekend has now gone completely thanks to brisk Trade Winds blowing down from the North Atlantic.

06.03.2017: This week in Gran Canaria, the weather will be hot and sunny across the island with some calima dust in the air.

A blob of cold, humid Polar air sitting over southern Spain threatens to bring cold and rain to Gran Canaria and the eastern Canary Islands this week.

14.02.2017: There's a blob of cloud and rain heading towards us and due to arrive on Wednesday, then we expect a period of warm, sunny weather for the rest of the week.

There's a low pressure heading down towards the Canary Islands from Portugal and it's going to cause cloud, wind and rain over the weekend.

06.02.2107: If you've watched the Gran Canaria weather forecasts for next week, you'll have noticed that they look a bit gnarly. There's definitely weather incoming but we're not exactly sure what it is yet.

02.02.2017: This weekend will be sunny all over Gran Canaria with little or no wind. There may be the odd afternoon shower in the south. The North Shore will be hammered by huge waves tomorrow (Friday).

A sunny week coming up in Gran Canaria with just morning clouds in the north.

16.01.2017: The epic battle between Africa and the Atlantic Ocean continues this week in the skies over the Canary Islands. Africa is winning.

13.01.2017: A quick blast of dusty African air brings calima conditions to Gran Canaria today although it will fade away by tomorrow.

03.01.2017: The dust will fade today and the weather in Gran Canaria should be warm, sunny and calm until at least Friday.

The Best Gran Canaria Weather Forecast

The single most common question we get in the Gran Canaria Info group is...

What is the weather going to be like during my holiday?

The answer is almost always the same: If you are going to south Gran Canaria's resorts, it is very likely to be sunny every day. Yes, even in the winter. Yes, even though your weather app says it is going to be cloudy. Yes, even in January. And in February, etc.

Obviously it does sometimes rain in Gran Canaria, even in the sun-baked south, and there are occassional cloudy days.

To check for these rare rain and clouds there is no point using generic weather apps because they use data that averages out the weather and temperature across Gran Canaria.

This means that the forecast for Puerto Rico and other resorts includes weather and temperatrure predictions for inland and highland areas that are cooler and cloudier.

So, instead of believing your current weather app use the Spanish weather service website called the AEMET. It's website has detailed and very accurate forecasts for individual resorts, town and even beaches.

Here's the forecast for the Mogán area including Puerto Rico.

The mobile website works very well in English although the app is only in Spanish at the moment.
