14.11.2016: A blob of high-altitude cold air is currently sweeping over the Canary Islands and could bring showers to north Gran Canaria today.

Weather Forecast: Rain Due On Friday And Saturday

02.11.2016: A mini version of the bad weather that hit Gran Canaria last week is due to arrive on Friday and hang around on Saturday.

23.10.2016: The rain arrives overnight in Gran Canaria and peaks on Tuesday.

24.08.2016: The last week of August will be hot and sunny across the whole of Gran Canaria with no extreme weather or heat.

22.08.2016: Yesterday's rain was unexpected but we can't rule out more of it during the week. There will be plenty of sunshine too.

12.08.2016: After a week of exceptional heat things in Gran Canaria go back to normal this weekend. Hot and sunny, but not too hot.

23.06.2016: We're getting to the time of year when weather forecasts in Gran Canaria get boring.

15/04/2016: Gran Canaria should be warm and sunny this weekend although expect clouds to build up as the days go on.

You see a lot of 'fried egg' symbols in long-term Gran Canaria weather forecasts. That's because it's almost impossible to be accurate more than a few days ahead; unless you just assume that it's going to be sunny.

FEBRUARY 21, 2016: With the Gran Canaria highlands still covered in snow, it might seem silly to say that the recent patch of winter weather is over, but the forecast for this week is for sunshine in south Gran Canaria.

The Trade Winds return to Gran Canaria on Monday and bring cloud back to Gran Canaria, or at least to the north of the island.

Gran Canaria Weather: Sunshine For Christmas

After two days of autumnal weather in Gran Canaria, the sunshine is back and set to stay for Christmas.

The weather in Gran Canaria for the next week will be rather boring: Warm and mostly sunny.

This week will be warm in Gran Canaria although Monday and Tuesday will be quite cloudy.

Gran Canaria Weather: Hot Dusty Weekend

The faint calima that Gran Canaria experienced this week has intensified and looks like it will be here all weekend.

Gran Canaria and all of the Canary Islands will be hot this weekend as an east wind brings hot air and some dust over from North Africa.

The Gran Canaria weather today is classic October stuff: Blue skies with fluffy clouds.

The beginning of the week will see a mish-mash of different weather in the Canary Islands although we expect plenty of sunshine in Gran Canaria's resorts (but also cloudy spells and the odd shower). The next few days will be similar.

Tip of the day

  • The Parafarmacia In Gran Canaria Is Not A Chemist!
The Parafarmacia In Gran Canaria Is Not A Chemist!

If there is one thing we hate it is visitors being tricked in Gran Canaria. In the past we've warned about overcharging at Gran Canaria chemists, and rip off electronics shops in resorts.

In this Tip Of The Day we return to the island's chemists or rather, to the island's fake chemists.

A chemist in Gran Canaria is called a Farmacia and always has a green cross sign. Farmacias are the only place tobuy medicine in Spain, even basics like paracetamol.

However, there is another kind of shop in Gran Canaria that looks and sounds like a chemist but doesn't sell medicine. This is the Parafarmacia and it also uses a green cross sign.

A parafarmacia is a herbal medicine shop that is not allowed to sell any normal medicine such as paracetamol, ibuprofen or antibiotics.

Instead, parafarmacias sell herbal alternatives to medicine but don't have to prove that they work and they can charge whatever they want.

We recently heard from a visitor to Gran Canaria who went into a parafarmacia and was charged 40 euros for a herbal alternative to Ibuprofen. It was only when they read the label that they realised what had happened.

To locate a genuine farmacia, see this website and search within your municipio (Puerto Rico is in Mogán, Playa del Inglés is in San Bartolomé de Tirajana). At weekends and on fiesta days many farmacias close but there is always one open, known as the farmacia de guardia, in each municipio.
